New Brunswickers invited to participate in Join the Wellness Movement
09/29/2011
The provincial government today launched its 2011-12 wellness marketing campaign, Join the Wellness Movement.
We are celebrating the efforts of New Brunswickers in all parts of the province, said Wellness, Culture and Sport Minister Trevor Holder. The goal is to highlight all the good things that are happening about wellness and to encourage more New Brunswickers to make positive changes.
The campaign, to run until the end of February 2012, encourages groups, organizations, communities, workplaces and schools to join the wellness movement by registering and completing an online wellness commitment.
These commitments will be represented by beach balls and installed in a group at high-traffic locations throughout the 10 wellness regions in the province. Regional rallies celebrating Join the Wellness Movement will be held during New Brunswick Wellness Week, Oct. 1 - 7.
Holder said he made a personal commitment to walk 30 minutes a day, at least three times a week. He challenged employees in the department to follow suit.
As a government, we realize that steps taken now to raise the level of wellness of our population are the best ways to help New Brunswickers live healthier lives now and to decrease health-care costs in the future, said Holder.
Groups, organizations, communities, schools and workplaces may make a wellness commitment by registering their activity online. They will have a chance to win grants of $500 or $1,000 to help them organize on-going wellness initiatives. Prizes will also be awarded to individuals.
