FREDERICTON (CNB) - Three festivals in New Brunswick are among the top 100 must-see events in North America for 2010 as listed by the American Bus Association, Tourism and Parks Minister Stuart Jamieson announced today.
Those festivals are:
-
the Festival Acadien in Caraquet, Aug. 1-15, 2010;
-
the New Brunswick Highland Games in Fredericton, July 23-25, 2010; and
-
the Atlantic Balloon Festival in Sussex, Sept. 10-12, 2010.
All three are included in the Top 100 Events in North America and will be included in the fall edition of Destinations, a magazine published by the association. The top 100 events list is online.
Having these three festivals included in this impressive list of events provides an important boost in visibility for New Brunswick from which our entire tourism industry can benefit, said Jamieson. It also clearly recognizes that our province has world-class events and attractions.
The associations 2010 Top 100 Events selection committee chose the three New Brunswick festivals from among hundreds of American and Canadian events nominated by state and provincial tourism offices and convention and visitors bureaus. Judges considered the events broad appeal, their accessibility to motorcoaches and skill at handling large groups, and a variety of other criteria.
According to a recent American research, one overnight visit by a motor coach group can leave from $5,000 to more than $13,000 (U.S.) in a local destinations economy. Those dollars are spent on lodging, meals, admissions, fees, shopping, souvenirs, services and local taxes.
